Course Description and Overview

COM 592 is an introduction to the history, nature, concepts and factors affecting mass media development. The course provides an overview of media trends, history, and factors that have affected that history. The course looks at changes in technology and the impact of those changes on media and society. Students should, at the end of the course, be able to answer questions relating to the character of the media, changes in the media industry, future of the industry, the overall direction of this growth, and its impact on society.
