PURPOSE
The course is designed to provide students with tools to understand better, explore and critically evaluate society’s own experiences of religion and other emerging themes; and the portrayal of social institutions in the media: religion, ethnicity, marriage and family, cultural practices, and electronic faith communities among others. The course will also examine the impact of media content on underlying motivations for using selected media within divergent groups in society. Students will come out of the class with improved critical thinking skills for understanding the integration of faith in media selection, media content and culture, stewardship and the future development, and appropriation of mass communication technologies locally and internationally.
