GENERAL SUMMARY
PSY 891 is a practical course targeting development of clinical skills for working with children between 5 to 12 years. Many of the children present with childhood disorders and other problems. Students work with children to resolve their issues in sites such as schools, orphanages, juvenile Centers and para-church organizations. They present in class Clinical Reports and Videos for supervision by peers and primary supervisor. Students are assessed according to their ability to resolve children's problems through practical therapeutic techniques, evaluation of their performance at the sites by site supervisors and record keeping through logging.
WEEK 1: OPEN CLASS DISCUSSION
Getting the feel of where students are in terms of clinicals and working with children. The students opted to discuss how they can improve both individually and as a group. Class generated Questions were addressed by all.
WEEK 2:
The Overview of the Course; Discussion Centered on appropriateness of the site, 3 Confidential Clinical reports requirement, 3 Confidential Audiotapes for class presentation, accurate use of Diagnosis and testing of children using appropriate psychological tools.
WEEK 3 - WEEK 15: Presentations of Clinical Reports and Audiotapes from each student, followed by peer and primary supervisor supervision which involves critical analysis of skills displayed by the students for the purpose of sharpening clinical skills and competence.
