This course surveys the development of the English language from its Indo-European past to the present day. This includes the various foreign influences that affected it at various stages of its development and how it became one of the international languages.

The course is designed to create awareness in the student of the historical changes of the English Language from its Indo-European origin through medieval to modern times; and to introduce the history of the English language from its earliest development to its present status as a world language and highlight some significant events that influenced the English language
