Welcome to our class BIL312A! This course is designed to conform to the Problem Based Learning (PBL) mode of delivery. PBL provides you with opportunities to identify solutions to ill-structured, real-world, and real time problems. Looking forward to a meaningful interaction throughout the semester.

Course Purpose

The course provides learners with a general introduction to hermeneutics with a view to contribute to historical, literary & grammatical interpretation of scripture. Hermeneutics as the science of linguistic understanding, historical facts & Biblical exegesis looks at the actual interpretation of the sacred book or the bringing out of its meaning. It is designed to enhance learners’ ability to acquire knowledge and skills to develop a Christian worldview, values, attitudes, and character founded on the correct handling of the word of truth and necessary for the transformation of their lives and society.

Expected Learning Outcomes

By the end of this course, the learner should be able to: 

  1. Outline the nature and dynamics of Hermeneutics on how to read, interpret, and apply the inspired word of God for our life.
  2. Describe the critical study of biblical literature exegesis and hermeneutics. The primary goal, however, is to arrive at biblical truths and values by an unbiased use of exegesis and hermeneutics.
  3. Underscore the contemporary methodologies of biblical hermeneutics.  
  4. Analyze and appreciate the different types of literary genres found in the Bible.
  5. Address and interpret with confidence the different types of literary genres found in the Bible.
  6. Apply and use with confidence the skills and competences learnt through the course (the basic tools for biblical exegesis and principles for applying the Bible) with the illumination of the Spirit towards one’s personal and church life in the development of the society and ministry.
