Purpose of the Course

The purpose of this course is to provide the student with basic knowledge in Politics of Development in order to enable the student to have a better foundation and grounding in issues concerning Politics of underdevelopment, Modernism and specifically Politics of Development in the Third World. 

ExpectedLearning Outcomes

At the end of the course the student will be able to:

1.     explain basics of Politics of Development within the context of Developing Nations.

2.     demonstrate understanding of basic concepts of power politics, democracy and democratization politics in Africa.

3.     demonstrate understanding of the concept of Development.

4.     demonstrate understanding of the concept of underdevelopment.

 Course Description

Introduction; Historical background to Politics of Development; Theory of underdevelopment; Politics of underdevelopment; Modernism and underdevelopment; Agents of Development (State, Market, Civil Society, Non-governmental organizations, Private Sector Initiatives; National Development, Government types of states, types of governments, managing state, ethnicity, emancipation.
