Purpose of the course
The course introduces the student to the foundations of Nursing and patient centered
Care. The application of the principles will be demonstrated through skills to enable the
student work as a professional within a collaborative team in the care of patients.
Expected Learning Outcomes
By the end of the course the student will be able to:
1. Describe Nursing based on a theoretical models and nursing standards.
2. Discuss Medical ethics applied to nursing practice.
3. Explain infection control practices applied to health care settings.
4. Discuss the Principles and process of admission, transfer, and discharge of a
patient in hospital/ health care setting.
5. Demonstrate skills of ensuring patient comfort in a hospital bed.
6. Explain the methods used for monitoring patients’ physiological functions in
disease states.
7. Compare the various methods used in medication administration
8. Develop skills in administration of intravenous infusions, blood/blood
components
9. Describe the nursing care of a patient in the peri-operative period.
10. Discuss the nursing care of the unconscious patient.
11. Discuss end of life care
