Purpose
The aim of this course is to introduce the learners to the different types and purpose of operating systems.
Objectives
- On
successful completion of this course students should be able to:

the historical perspective and development of operating systems
- Describe
the functions of operating systems
- Explain
the different structures and types of operating systems
- Discuss
how OS manage processes and how processes communicate with each other via the
operating systems
- Discuss
how OS achieve security of resources including processes running in memory
- Explain the Linux kernel and how it is applicable in light operating systems like android
