Hi All,
This is Advanced research course (MME/MCD/MCP/PSY613310/CHD 613) for this semester. This course is co-taught across the SAHS. I take this opportunity to welcome all of you to this class. The course is deliberately designed to conform to the Problem Based Learning (PBL) mode of delivery. PBL, is a learning and teaching approach used at Daystar University. The model provides learners with opportunities to identify solutions to real-world problems and needs that confront humanity and hinder sustainable development at individual, family, institutional, organizational, societal and national levels. The intention of this course is to expose the learner to social research processes helpful in undertaking research at community, institutional and organizational levels with the aim of establishing empirical understanding of the dynamics behind existing situations and appropriately come up with scientifically generated solutions to address felt concerns and needs.
Together, we shall all be learning to learn. Therefore, my role in this class will be that of a facilitator. Thus, I urge all of us to commit ourselves, our time and psyche to learning and developing mastery of research process. Be available and ready to learn, support one another as you develop research competencies on how, through empirical research, you can meaningfully contribute to the understanding of; causes, effects and appropriate interventions needed in society to address incessant psycho-social-economic-cultural challenges that confront society with an aim of strategically addressing these concerns through research.
I look forward to meaningful interaction with you and amongst yourselves as we divulge deeper into the content of this course throughout this semester.
Karibu sana!
