Purpose of the Course
The purpose of this course is to introduce the learners to the concepts of disaster management, disaster risk reduction, and community-based disaster risk preparedness with a view to acquiring knowledge and skills for building the capacity for reducing disasters within communities for the purposes of sustainable development. This course will prepare learners for careers in the Humanitarian Enterprise, Livelihood Management, and general Disaster Management practice besides admission in post-Graduation studies.
Expected Learning Outcomes
By the end of the semester, the learners should be able to:
- Examine various concepts related to disasters,
- Critique various theories of disaster’
- Discuss the socio-eco causes of vulnerability,
- Explain the Christian perspectives and response to disaster,
- Evaluate appropriate approaches of managing disasters
- Analyze the models of disasters and
- Demonstrate knowledge in Participatory Disaster Risk Analysis (PDRA).
