COM 445 is designed to develop students’ editing skills and to equip them with knowledge, based on the general principles of the theory and practice of editing.
Its emphasis is on print publications and the role of copy editors in processing stories and articles for publication.
Editing skills include speed, accuracy, consistency, conciseness, correctness, completeness, balance and fairness.
Students will be exposed to principles of editing various types of newspaper and magazine articles, page design and layout.
The unit is vital in helping the students understand how they would make use of various skills including speed, accuracy, consistency and balance in the publishing world.
